* An HBO Premiere Movie *
This powerful suspenseful action/drama centers around love and loss, betrayal and brutality. When a wounded Federal agent is given shelter in the dark world of a Greek Mafia clan, he discovers that the woman he has fallen in love with . . . is the boss's wife.
Corruption lies deep within the Little Rock ATF bureau, and agent Martin Roberts (JOHN ALLEN NELSON TV's "Baywatch," "Sweet Justice") is caught between the criminals he is sworn to take down and a rogue faction of his agency.
Martin's friend and mentor, Captain Landis (CHARLES DURNING "One Fine Day," "Tootsie," "Home For The Holidays," "Hudsucker Proxy" TV's "Evening Shade"), has been recruited by a small-time arms dealer, Tom Cantrell (KURTWOOD SMITH "Broken Arrow," "Dead Poet's Society," "Robocop"), to sell weapons on the local black market.
Competition arises from a newly arrived Greek Mafia family headed by Dimitri Constantinos (PETER ONORATI TV's "NYPD Blue," Civil Wars"), and his brother Nikos (COSTAS MANDYLOR "Mobsters," TV's "Players," "Picket Fences"), who oversee a vast interstate arms smuggling network.
Cantrell convinces the reluctant Landis that by taking out the Greeks, they can take over their network and rake in millions. Fearing Martin will talk, they plan to kill him during an elaborate hit as they "arrest" Dimitri and his men.
During the "arrest," Martin and his partner, Jimmy (LINDEN ASHBY "Mortal Kombat," "Wyatt Earp," TV's "Melrose Place"), serve as back-up. As the Greeks exit a restaurant, Martin realizes something is wrong. Several hitmen close in, drawing weapons. Just as all hell breaks loose, to Martin's horror, Helena (BRENDA BAKKE "Hot Shots, Part Deux," "Under Siege, Part II" TV's "American Gothic") - a lovely mysterious woman whom he has met once before, is caught in the crossfire. More hitmen appear, this time wounding Martin and killing Jimmy. Martin explodes into action and during a ferocious gun battle saves Helena and the Greeks. Admiring Martin's "brass balls," Dimitri whisks him back to his compound and offers him a job while he recovers from his wounds.
An undeniable, but dangerous attraction grows between Martin and Helena, who it turns out is Dimitri's wife, trapped in an abusive marriage with the charming but vicious villain. She fears for Martin's life, and begs him to leave before it is too late. But their passion explodes into true love as the two wounded souls find the strength to trust again.
When Dimitri learns of his wife's infidelity and Martin's betrayal, their world explodes with terrible consequences, and they run for their lives. Try though they might, they cannot escape. Upon catching them, Dimitri proceeds to beat Martin mercilessly with a bat while Helena watches in horror. As he raises the bat one last time to deliver a death blow, Helena grabs a gun tucked into the waistband of one of the men next to her and fires a bullet through Dimitri's heart. Fed up with his unjust brutality, his men decide to let the two of them live. Their king is dead, as are his vendettas.
Martin and Helena are free to begin a new life together, in the shelter of one another's arms.
