"Sand", directed by Academy Award nominee Matt Palmieri, tells the story of Tyler Briggs (MICHAEL VARTAN "Dead Man's Curve," "Myth of Fingerprints," "The Pallbearer"), a young man who, after the tragic death of his beloved mother, disowns his remaining family, and travels to a small, Southern California coastal town with the hope of burying his dark past and building a new life for himself.
After settling in on the coast, Tyler soon meets Jack (NORMAN REEDUS "Mimic," "Floating," "Six Ways on Sunday"), a hardcore young local, who, after initially giving Tyler a hard time, tries to make up for it by inviting him out with his friends Max (BOHDI ELFMAN "Mercury Rising," "Enemy of the State") and Andy (PETER SIMMONS "Renaissance Man"), as well as helping him find a job and a place to live.
Jack also does Tyler the favor of introducing him to his sister Sandy (KARI WUHRER "Kissing a Fool," "Anaconda," "The Crossing Guard"), a beautiful young art student and singer, who has just returned home after graduating from college. Tyler and Sandy start hanging out together, and, before long, they fall in love.
However, just as things are starting to look up for Tyler, his past catches up with him as his father, Gus (MARSHALL BELL, "Natural Born Killers," "Dick Tracy," "Air America," "Total Recall"), his half-brothers, Hardy (JOHN HAWKES "Playing God," "Congo") and Baker (RODNEY EASTMAN "Clubland," "The Opposite of Sex," "Nightmare On Elm Street 3&4"), and his father's best friend Teddy (DENIS LEARY "Suicide Kings," "Wag the Dog," "The Ref"), show up on the coast on the lam from the law, and very quickly destroy Tyler's newfound happiness.
Indeed, looking for trouble one evening, Hardy and Baker break into Tyler's house where they encounter Sandy. They begin to play a game of cat and mouse with her which escalates into a violent, disturbing encounter that is cut short at the last possible moment by the fortunate arrival of Gus and Teddy. When Jack discovers that Tyler's brothers have assaulted his sister, he sets out with Max and Andy in search of revenge. As the stakes rise higher and higher, Tyler is ultimately forced to choose between his loyalty to his family and his allegiance to his new friends.
